Meta AI is (as you might have guessed) the AI offerings from Meta (Who owns Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, Messenger, etc.). Meta AI is free, but Meta is currently investigating whether they should have a subscription for heavy AI usage called Meta AI+. Meta is using their own AI model called Llama.
- In Messenger and WhatsApp, you can chat with Meta AI but with very limited functionality (in Denmark that is).
- In facebook, you will find a link to Meta AI, which just takes you to the browser interface with full functionality.
- In Instagram, there is a link to Meta AI and you can (if your language settings is english) create an AI in AI studio – not sure what this is.
- In the Meta AI app on Android and iPhone, you cannot perform chat (in Denmark), but you can connect a pair of Ray-Ban Meta Glasses – got to get me a pair of these for another blog post.
All in all, pretty confusing, it almost seems like Meta has a different purpose for their AI offerings than everybody else. Curious to see what their aim is…
Note that if you ask Meta AI whether you can create images in the Meta AI chatbot in messenger, the chatbot in Messenger will tell you that it cannot, while the web interface will tell you: Yes!
Use Meta AI in a browser
If you open https://meta.ai in a browser, you can use Meta AI anonymously if you just indicate your age (without any form of verification). You can also login using your Facebook or Instagram account and then you get an interface, which is very much targeted on chat and imaging.
You will have a discover functionality, where you can discover images posted by other people using what prompt. It looks pretty amazing what it can do with imaging, but…
Let’s retry the magic prompt…
That is pretty magical – and with a click of a button, I can turn it 3D, retro, cookie dough or whatever.
This post was written on September 10th, 2025 – things might/will change…
Until next time
